Crystal Jade has closed five restaurants in Singapore this year, marking a significant reduction in the footprint of one of the city-state’s best-known Chinese restaurant groups.
The closures include Hong Kong Kitchen outlets at The Clementi Mall and Jurong Point, which closed in September. They followed the closure of its Great World outlet and branches at Hillion Mall and Suntec City earlier in the year.
Crystal Jade said the closures are part of an ongoing review of its operations as it responds to changing market conditions and reassesses its long-term business priorities. The group has also offered affected employees opportunities for redeployment within its remaining operations.
The scale of the closures is notable. Crystal Jade has significantly reduced its Singapore presence from the much larger network it operated in previous years, reflecting a broader shift among established restaurant groups toward more selective outlet portfolios.
The move comes as Singapore’s food-and-beverage sector continues to experience high turnover, with rising operating costs and intense competition putting pressure on restaurants.
For Crystal Jade, the closures signal a strategic reset rather than an exit from Singapore. The group continues to operate multiple concepts across the city, while the restructuring highlights the growing importance of location, operating efficiency and sustainable restaurant economics.
